CHOIR
The Greenwood choir is an enthusiastic group of people who love to sing, have fun and, most of all, be an integral part of worship at Greenwood. Our music is based on the traditional, but very much embraces the contemporary, gospel and has even ventured into jazz. With two major cantatas, our Anniversary service, as well as our Sunday to Sunday celebrations of the church season, we have a busy schedule. Our choir practices, currently on Fridays 1:00 p.m., are jam-packed with learning, camaraderie and singing with great joy. NEW MEMBERS ARE ALWAYS WELCOME ! GREEN TEAM: Beekeepers and Gardeners We are dedicated to recognizing the sacredness of our Earth through greening our building and property, exploring eco-spirituality in our worship services, and extending our vision to the greater community. Our productive beehive at the back of our property is a viable symbol of God's creation, and our new sanctuary garden is a peaceful spot for contemplation. UNITED CHURCH WOMEN After many years of service as both Donwood and Greenwood UCW, this group disbanded at the end of 2018. PRAYER CHAIN The members of this group pray regularly for the needs of people that you and others bring to their attention. The names of those that we pray for are held in confidence. We meet on a regular basis to support each other in this commitment to prayer and to review the situation of those for whom we pray. Prayer is a powerful action that can bring great hope and peace. We know that prayer makes a difference, offering support and strength to those who we pray for and those who surround them. STEWARDS The Stewards Committee oversee building maintenance and fund raising activities, and deal with all of the financial obligations of the church. They review reports from the treasurer, direct payments and maintain written minutes to document motions & records of their work and expenditures. Members serve a 3 year -term. Meetings are usually held 2nd Wednesdays at church at 7 p.m. from September to June. SESSION This group is elected to oversee the spiritual interests of the congregation. Seven members plus the Minister keep tabs on matters such as baptisms, weddings, funerals, communion, membership, Sunday kids, and the worship service. Session members also form part of the Pastoral Care group. These folk visit or phone the ill and home-bound, and ensure that they are not forgotten. Session members usually serve a three-year term and generally meet once a month from September to June. Members currently meet on Zoom. Session is a wonderfully rewarding way to serve the congregation. OUTREACH COMMITTEE Greenwood follows the lead of Jesus in the Bible’s New Testament parables, and their call to mission in the world. We have chosen to support social justice, environmental, and charitable initiatives, both local and global and to respond to Indigenous leaders’ calls to the Church. The committee is charged with selecting and overseeing projects in partnership with both individuals and organizations that fit these priority areas. |
